Fibretronic Partners with Griffin for Wireless.

In an exclusive deal, Fibretronic and Griffin have linked their technologies to offer garment and soft goods manufacturers a unique solution for wireless iPod controls.

Fibretronic’s range of textile based keypad and joystick controllers have been coupled with Griffin’s RF transmitter and receiver technologies to allow for remote control of any iPod player. The wireless system is a revolution for wearables as it means that the textile keypad no longer needs to be tethered to the iPod. This opens up a breadth of new application possibilities for the garment industry.

Steve Leftly, CEO of Fibretronic says " This is great news for wearables. It allows iPod controls to be applied to products, such as gloves and accesories, that previously just weren’t possible. With our wireless interfaces there is now no need to have the iPod directly connected to the control device in the garment".

Indeed, the combined Fibretronic and Griffin technologies have already enabled O’Neill Europe to produce the world’s first wireless iPod control garment; the ‘Fat Controller’ snowboard glove. The RF transmitter located in the cuff of the glove sends commands from the joystick to a Receiver unit plugged into the iPod. The iPod can then be located out of harm’s way in the wearer’s jacket, bag or anywhere within a distance of up to 10m.

Griffin Technologies is a world leading manufacturer of iPod consumer accessories including products such as the ‘Air Click’ and the ‘iTrip’.
